Eid-el-Fitri: FRSC Alerts Motorists Over Gwagwalada Bridge Traffic

News Investigators/ The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), FCT Sector Command, has advised motorists to exercise patience over the traffic congestion on the Gwagwalada bridge due to the ongoing dismantling of temporary steel fortifications.

The FCT Sector Commander, Felix Theman, gave the advice in a statement by the Command Public Education Officer (CPEO) Helen Ntaji on Tuesday in Abuja

Mr Theman called on road users to remain calm, cooperate with FRSC personnel and other security agencies, as well as obey traffic instructions to ensure orderly movement.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the expansion and steel fortifications on the bridge were put in place in 2025 to facilitate the movement of heavy equipment, which necessitated the temporary closure of the inward carriageway.

The sector commander noted that the ongoing dismantling exercise had inevitably slowed down vehicular movement and caused delays to travelers, leading to loss of man-hours and other inconveniences.

“Motorists are therefore strongly advised to remain patient, maintain decorum and strictly obey traffic officers managing vehicular movement within the corridor.

“Compliance with the directives of officers on duty will greatly assist in easing congestion and ensuring smoother traffic flow within the available carriageway pending the completion of the dismantling of the temporary steel structures,

“As the Sallah festive period approaches with the likelihood of increased vehicular movement along the corridor, drivers are further urged to maintain lane discipline,” he said.

Mr Theman urged motorists to avoid dangerous overtaking and strictly adhere to all traffic regulations while approaching and navigating through the construction zone.

“This will help prevent avoidable crashes and ensure that the current situation is not worsened by lack of cooperation from road users,’’ he emphasised.

He assured the public that officers and men of the corps would continue to provide necessary guidance, directions and advice where necessary.

He added that the command was in constant contact with the company to hasten the completion of the work.
