Delta Commits N654.5bn For Procurement Activities In 2025 — Oborevwori

News Investigators/ Delta Government says it has committed about N654.5 billion for procurement activities covering about 362 contracts across key sectors including roads, education, healthcare and other strategic infrastructures in the state.

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by his deputy, Monday Onyeme, stated this during his opening remarks at a 2-Day Public Procurement Enlightenment Workshop for Top Government Finctionaries, organised by State Public Procurement Commission on Wednesday in Asaba.

The workshop is themed,” Understanding the Delta State Public Procurement Law, 2020″

Mr Oborevwori said the state’s Procurement law 2020 provided legal and institutional framework within this objectives, adding that understanding its provision is essential for all public officers involved in planning and approving executive government projects.

He said that the theme was apt, and that public procurement remained one of government’s most important responsibilities.

According to him,  public procurement is a process through which public funds are  transformed into roads, bridges, schools and other critical Infrastructure that improve the lives of our people.

“It  demands the highest standard of Integrity, professionalism and strict compliance with established procedures, recognises that an efficient procurement system is essential to good governance.

“This has informed our efforts in  strengthening institutional framework that promote openness, transparency, competition and value for money in project education.

“The importance we attached to this responsibility is reflected in our investments in 2025 alone, Delta State committed over N664.5 billion for procurement activities.

“This has  resulted in the award of about 362 contracts across key sectors. Including roads, education, healthcare and other strategic infrastructures. Significantly, these achievements were recorded without borrowing”.

Mr Oborevwori said that with financial management and strict  adherence to due process, the state government has continued to fund projects while maintaining the financial stability.

“This demonstrates that responsible government and sustainable development, goes hand in hand. Beyond project delivery,  we will remain committed to ensuring that every naira  spent delivered measurable value to our people.

“We will, therefore,  continue to deepen procurement reforms and strengthen capacity of the state public procurement commission to sustained funding,  manpower development and institutional support for a strong commission.”

He thanked the organisers and the DG, BPP, Dr Adebowale Adedokun  and Chairman, ICPC, Dr Musa Aliyu for their support and urged the participants to engage and take the programme serious.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Mr David Igbodo, Chairman, Delta State Public Procurement Council, said the workshop reflected the state government’s commitment to institutional excellence, transparency, accountability and strict adherence to the procurement law.

According to him, the administration of Oborevwori has consistently demonstrated its commitment to due process by ensuring that government contracts were awarded through transparent and competitive procedures.

He noted that the governor’s insistence on fairness, accountability and compliance with procurement guidelines has helped ensure that only qualified and competent contractors handled public projects in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the BPP boss, Dr Adebowale Adedokun delivered a lecture entitled: “Professionalism in Public Procurement in Nigeria”.

On his part, the ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Aliyu spoke on the Role of ICPC in promoting Transparency and Preventing Fraud in Public Procurement in Nigeria.

The workshop is expected to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to strengthen procurement governance and ensure value for money in the delivery of public projects across the tate.
