Defence Minister Reaffirms Nigeria’s Commitment To Regional Security Cooperation

News Investigators/ The Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to regional cooperation and collective security in efforts to combat terrorism and stabilise the Lake Chad Basin.

This is contained in a statement by Enderline Chukwu, Deputy Director, Information and Public Relations, Ministry of Defence, on Wednesday in Abuja.

Mr Musa made the remark during his recent official visit to N’Djamena, Chad, where he participated in a meeting of Ministers of Defence of Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) of the Multinational Joint Task Force under the Lake Chad Basin Commission.

He emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration among member states in degrading terrorist networks and addressing cross-border threats in the region.

Mr Musa commended the government and people of Chad for hosting the meeting and acknowledged their leadership role within the MNJTF framework.

The participating ministers also expressed appreciation to the President of Chad and Chairman of the LCBC Summit for his support in advancing regional peace and security.

The meeting brought together defence ministers and representatives from member countries, including Nigeria, Cameroon, Benin and Chad, alongside senior military leadership and intelligence chiefs.

It provided a platform to review ongoing operations and strengthen collective efforts toward enhancing regional security.

According to the statement, the ministers considered reports presented by Chiefs of Defence Staff and heads of intelligence agencies on the operational effectiveness of the MNJTF and evolving security dynamics in the Lake Chad Basin.

Key issues discussed included force deployment, funding constraints and the changing threat environment during closed-door sessions.
