The people of Ondewari community have caught six sea pirates who killed a female student of the Niger Delta University at the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The sea pirates mostly teenagers and those in the early 20s attacked a speed boat in which the student was traveling and inflicted machete injuries on her at a location in the Creeks called Banga Farm.
The student was said to have bled to death in the boat as a result
The pirates collected money, phones, and other valuables from the passengers and boasted that they are from Korokorosei close to where the attack took place.
A source told the Network that the victims of the attack mostly women went to Korokorosei to wail that pirates from the community killed their daughter and robbed them of their belongings.
The Network gathered that the people of Osiama Akede the home community of the murdered student also mobilized men to Korokorosei in readiness for a communal conflict.
The situation was said to have made the Korokorosei community to investigate and discovered that the pirates are from the neighboring Ondewari.
In order to avert a bloody crisis in the area, the Ondewari men went after the pirates and got all of them arrested.
It was gathered that they have taken the pirates to Yenagoa where they were handed over to the police.
The Network could not get the name of the murdered students as at the time of filing this report
When contacted, the Spokesman of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr Asinim Butswat, said he had been been briefed on the development.
