Buy Waste Bins Within 45 Days from Now Or Face Sanction, Soludo Tells Anambra Residents

By Kamsi Anayo

Gov. Chukwuma Soludo-led Anambra state government has told residents of the state to procure waste bins for their premises within 45 days or face sanction.

The State Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Felix Odimegwu gave the instruction on behalf of the state government in a statement on Friday.

According to him, the aim is to sustain a Clean and Green Anambra State, which, he said, is the responsibility of everybody.

He also warned that every household, market stall, school, motor park, hotel, factory and sundry public facilities in the state must procure their waste bins within the specified time-frame to avoid  sanction.

Meanwhile, the culvert channels in most of the urban cities in the state, particularly in Onitsha, the commercial hub of the state have been blocked by waste poured into the gutters.

This is done by the people mostly during downpour and at nights.

A survey in Onitsha and Awka, the state capital showed that the water channel disilting efforts of the state government is ineffective because of people using gutter as to dispose waste.

Some major roads in these areas are blocked by refuse scattered on the ground by residents.
