BUHARI SACKS ACTING ACCOUNTANT-GENERAL ANAMEKWE FROM OFFICE

SEARCHES FOR NEW AGF

President Mohammadu Buhari, on Monday sacked the acting Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Chukwuyere Anamekwe, from office.

Anamekwe was said to have been replaced two weeks ago with Okolieaboh Ezeoke Sylvis, a former,Director TSA (Treasury Single Account).

The Network gathered that Anamekwe was removed from office, over his alleged involvement and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in the investigations concerning the arrest and probe of the former AGF, Ahmed Idris.

Anamekwe was appointed the acting AGF in May 22, after the arrest of former AGF, Ahmed Idris by the EFCC over corruption allegations.

During his interrogation, it was gathered that he owned up to many revelations on how government was borrowing to pay salaries on June 14.

It was gathered that following the revelations, he was later replaced after seven days.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Mrs Folasade Yemi-Esan, has issued a circular for the process of appointing a new Accountant General of the Federation.

In a memo titled: “Commencement of the process of appointment of a substantive Accountant-General of the Federation”, the HoCSF directed permanent secretaries to forward details of eligible directors on Grade 17 to her on or before 4:00 pm on Wednesday, July 6, 2022.”

The memo highlighted the qualification of level 17 officers qualified for the position.

“Those who have attained the position of Substantive Director (Grade 17) on or before January 1, 2020, and are not retiring from the service earlier than December 31, 2024, are eligible to participate in the selection process, while officers undergoing disciplinary proceedings are excluded”, The memo reads.
