BREAKING: Five PDP Governors Meet In Enugu Over Peter Obi

By Kamsi Anayo, Awka

Five governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met in Enugu on Sunday to explore the possibility of Obi Presidency.

The governors are: Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Okezie Ikeazu of Abia State and the host Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

The five Governors led by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, have been involved in a running dispute with the Presidential flag bearer of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

The Governors are implacable as they insist that the national Chairman of the PDP, Iyiorcha Ayu must resign since Atiku is from the North.

Although, the Governors who met behind closed door also did not also address the media, sources gave the indications the deliberations tilted towards working for a President from the South.

It was learnt that the Governors meeting focused on pursuing the realization of the botched Asaba Accord of the 16 Southern Governors and the demand of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum that the next President should come from the South after eight years of Buhari’s Presidency.

The emergence of Atiku threaten  that historical decision of the Southern and is believed to be a factor in the lingering dispute.

There were strong insinuations that the Sunday meeting of the five aggrieved PDP Governors examined the possibility of supporting Peter Obi’s Presidency in 2023.

The meeting is coming after Obi visited the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on September 21 and another meeting with the Rivers Strong man, Wike on September 30.

Wike had shared pictures of his meeting with Obi in his official Twitter handle on September 30 saying, “It was nice hosting my brother #PeterObi once again.”

Prior to that, a source told the Network that from President Obasanjo met with Peter, Governor Nyesom Wike, and others in London behind closed doors to solicit for the support of the Governors.

There are loud indications that Obasanjo is using his massive influence within and outside the country to push for a Peter Obi Presidency.
