BREAKING: Army foils move to ship ammunition into Anambra by Ghanaian

The Nigerian Army has intercepted an international smuggling syndicate which was smuggling ammunition to Anambra state.

The Army made the revelation in a signal on Monday.

It was stated that the arrest was made along the Ajilete-Owode Road in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun state.

The troops from the 192 Battalion swiftly apprehended a suspicious truck bearing plate number (ENU 697 XY).

A total of 720 cartons of Red Star cartridges, each containing 25 cartridges (equivalent to a mind-boggling 18,000 cartridges), along with 250 packets of live cartridges of pellet black (comprising 2,500 cartridges) of the same caliber were found.

The individuals responsible for the act have been identified as Mr Eric Seworvor, a citizen of Ghana, and the truck’s driver, Lukman Sani.

The swift response by the Nigerian Army led to their immediate arrest at the scene, ensuring that they could not evade justice.

Investigations revealed that the ammunition had been clandestinely transported from Mali, crossing the border via the Idiroko International Border.

It was gathered that  objective of the smugglers was to deliver the ammunition to an undisclosed dealer in Onitsha, Anambra state.

The interception of this deadly consignment by the Nigerian Army has not only prevented its distribution but has also averted the potentially catastrophic consequences that could have arisen from the illicit trade and use of these weapons.

The success of the operation serves as a testament to the unwavering commitment and vigilance of the Nigerian Army in combating the menace of arms smuggling.

Their swift and decisive action has undoubtedly contributed to maintaining peace and security within the region.

The apprehension of these criminals and the confiscation of the illicit ammunition are significant milestones in the ongoing efforts to protect innocent lives and uphold the rule of law.

The Nigerian Army, in collaboration with relevant law enforcement agencies, will continue to intensify their efforts to dismantle criminal networks and thwart attempts to smuggle illicit weapons.

Their dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of Nigerian citizens remains unwavering, as they steadfastly work towards maintaining peace and security throughout the country.
