21-year old boy who specializes in robbing Point of Sale operators (POS) escaped death by the whiskers when he was caught in the act on Tuesday.
The young thief who gave his name as Ikechukwu Okafor had approached a POS operator in the Edinburgh area of Enugu for a transaction.
He reportedly requested to make a withdrawal of N25,000, but instead of punching in his ATM 4-digit pin, the suspect cancelled the transaction, searched for an old transaction of the same amount, clicked and printed out, asking to be paid.
Unfortunately for him, the smart POS operator observed that the time of transaction on the printout was more than three hours old.
She raised the alarm and the suspect was apprehended.
A crowd soon gatherered and descended on the suspect who merely pleaded for pardon.
He was however saved by some Good people who opted to take him to the nearest police station; but not before he was battered by the the crowd.
Two UBA ATM cards suspected to be fake were found on him just as he confessed to the crime.
He however, claimed that he was sent by his boss but couldn’t produce the person’s contact or any reasonable evidence to back his claims.
In recent time attacks on POS operators well as drinking joints in Enugu have been on the rise in Enugu.
