•••WE WILL CHARGE NOTHING— FALANA

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, said he will go to court to unravel the killers of Chief Bola Ige, a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Soyinka in a media briefing on Thursday in Lagos titled: “Forget the past, forfeit the future: A nation seceding from humanity,” said he is worried about the appointment of the former Osun State deputy governor, Otunba Iyiola Omisore, as the National Secretary of the APC.

Omisore was an accused I n the murder of Chief Ige. He was appointed as the National Secretary of the ruling All Progressive Congress on March 26,

Last Saturday, Soyinka said with the position of Omisore in APC, the tendency to resurrect the murder of Ige was already impossible.

The Nobel Laureate, who condemned the incessant killings and the rising insecurity in the country including kidnappings and violence in several states, remembered how Omisore removed cap from Ige’s head, a respected Minister and threw the cap to thugs, adding that such action led to other actions.

Soyinka faulted the decision of the ruling APC to make him its national scribe.

Omisore who replied Soyinka said that he has instructed his lawyer to write him to demand a retraction of the comments.

Ige was killed by suspected gunmen at his Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State, home on December 23, 2001.

“We are talking of the party of those in charge of the governance and justice of this country. The leadership of APC and I are not talking of Buhari alone, do you have to unleash scorpions on our memory?” he queried.

“It is not Soyinka who provided this. It’s those who were so insensitive, who rubbed that murder in our faces. I will be delighted to go to court so that we can go into details. I ask the APC leadership to have a rethink because the issue will not go away,” he said.

Meanwhile, human rights lawyer, Chief Femi Falana (SAN), in his own reaction stated that indeed the killers of Chief Ige must be fished out.

He explained that Soyinka had reminded President Muhammadu Buhari of his pledge to open an enquiry into the country’s spate of political murders.

FALANA told the the Nobel Laureate of free legal service if he was sued “because you are taking on a public issue.”

“If you are sued, we will represent you free of charge because you are taking on a public issue,” Falana said.
