Banditry: Gov Idris Vows To Resettle IDPs Back To Their Ancestral Homes

News Investigators/ Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has vowed to resettle all the internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) by insecurity in Sakaba Local Government Area to their ancestral homes.

The governor gave the assurance on Thursday when he paid a sympathy visit to commiserate with the Chief of Sakaba and his people over recent bandit attacks that sacked some villages in the area.

He said the present administration was doing everything possible to tackle insecurity bedeviling some parts of the state, observing that no state in Nigeria “is 100 per cent secure.

“We are not here for politics but we are here to sympathise with you over the recent bandit attacks. Sakaba is one of the few places this government has at heart.

“Remember, no state in Nigeria is 100 per cent devoid of one problem or the other. However, our government is doing everything possible to protect its people,” he assured.

The governor advised the people to repent and seek divine intervention, saying: “We must change our attitude, surrender ourselves to the Almighty Allah and seek divine intervention, In-Sha-Allah, He will listen and accept our supplications.”

Mr Idris urged the people of the state to promote peace at all times, “because no nation can develop in an atmosphere of rancour or in a chaotic environment, hence the need for all of us to be our brothers’ keepers.

“We don’t advise any of our supporters to fight anybody and you shouldn’t temper with anybody’s posters or billboards. Try to be at peace with everybody,” he advised.

Speaking on Kebbi politics, the governor recalled that Sen. Adamu Aliero spent eight years as governor, Alhaji Sa’idu Dakingari spent eight years, and Sen. Atiku Bagudu also spent eight years, “then why is it that some people don’t want Kauran Gwandu to spend eight years?” he asked.

In his speech, the Speaker of the Kebbi House of Assembly, Salihu Maikasuwa-Dangoje, used the medium to thank the governor for facilitating his emergence as speaker.

He expressed concern over the renewed attacks on communities not only in Kebbi but across Nigeria, asking why such ugly incidents always happen when elections were approaching.

The speaker berated the immediate past Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, describing him as a mini-President when he served as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“This is because the then President Muhammadu Buhari gave him more powers than any other minister in the cabinet.

“The question here is what did he do to stop or minimise insecurity? Whenever these bandits strike a community, especially in Kebbi, what did he do to cushion the effect on the affected community? Thus, he didn’t use the opportunity to assist his people,” he said.

The Commissioner for Home Affairs and Internal Security, Alhaji Haliru Wasagu, said the governor had been doing his best to secure the state.

He assured that the governor had been pushing for the deployment of military formations in the affected areas to boost security of lives and property.
