Association Urges Poultry Farmers On Egg Price Drop

News Investigators/ The Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Lagos State chapter, has urged poultry farmers in the state to drop the price of eggs following the government’s intervention in the sector.

The PAN Lagos State Chairman, Mojeed Iyiola, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos.

Mr Iyiola reiterated the association’s gratefulness to the state government’s intervention in the sector.

He appealed  to the farmers to drop the price of eggs.

“We are grateful for the interventions we have been getting from the Lagos State to ease our production activities.

“We have been urging our farmers to drop the price of eggs and other poultry produce to commensurate to the interventions we have received.

“With the drop in the price of eggs, the effect of the government’s intervention will be visible for all to see.

“In our most recent meeting with local poultry farmers in the state, we told our members that the essence of government intervention is to make sure the cost price of eggs are reduced,” the PAN chairman said.

Mr Iyiola noted that the price eggs had dropped at designated market hubs but the price drop was yet to be reflected at the open markets.

“At the designated market hub where we sell wholesale, the cost of egg over there has dropped.

“However, the open market the price of eggs still remains the same way, a crate sells between N5,800 to N6,000 depending on the size.

“Though the intervention the government is giving is still very low and to a few farmers, we hope that it will spread across farmers in the state.

“We just want to urge farmers to come down with price of poultry produce.

“The government is actually trying for us, so we should compensate their efforts by dropping the price,” Iyiola said.
