Accident Claims Six Lives,16 Injured In Edo

Six persons lost their lives and 16 others sustained injuries on Wednesday in Auchi, headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo state.

The incident occurred when a lorry carrying cement lost control and rammed into several stores along the road in the area.

An eye witness Mr. Sani Aliu, disclosed that the driver of the vehicle was coming from the garage area of the Auchi Polytechnic town and descending the hill when he lost control due to break failure.

According to Mr. Aliu, he heard the loud noise of the crash while he was in company of his friends near Inu Umoru street when the incident tool place.

The vehicle rammed into many shops and killed several persons while goods worth several millions of naira were also destroyed in the process .

“Auchi is in deep mourning. Early this morning, the driver of a trailer conveying cement lost control as a result of break failure and crashed into the popular Igbo Shade, killing several persons which included traders and buyers.

Be said, “Over 20 persons are feared dead and several are still trapped in the collapsed buildings. The sigh is gruesome. My heart bleeds”, he said.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps, who confirmed the incident said six persons, all males died in the accident while 16 others who sustained vary degrees of injuries have been taken to the hospitals for treatment.
