News Investigators/ Five persons were injured on Sunday in a multiple-vehicle accident involving six vehicles, including a tanker, at Ikpoba Hill, Benin.
Preye Bedford, Edo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the accident, saying no life was lost.
Mr Bedford said eight persons were involved in the accident, adding that five sustained injuries while three others escaped unhurt.
The accident reportedly occurred when the tanker, conveying groundnut oil, allegedly suffered brake failure while descending the hill from Ramat Park.
The tanker allegedly rammed into other vehicles after the driver lost control while attempting to manage the vehicle.
An eyewitness, Mr Ken Omusi, claimed that the driver tried to control the tanker after the alleged brake failure.
Omusi said the driver, however, lost control after the tanker reportedly hit a pothole near the Ikpoba River Bridge.
He said the tanker subsequently veered off its lane and rammed into other vehicles, causing a multiple collision.
According to Omusi, three of the injured persons were rushed to hospital for medical attention.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that emergency responders later arrived at the scene to assist with rescue operations and manage the aftermath.
The responders included personnel from the Edo Emergency Management Agency, FRSC, police and fire service.
The agencies also helped control traffic and prevent further disruption following the accident, which involved six vehicles.
