The South West All Progressive Congress, has been rocked by a seeming split following the declaration of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi OSINBAJO for the Presidential race in 2023.
Osinbajo declared his interest to contest the for Presidential ticket of APC, after meeting with the APC Governors’ Forum on Sunday.
The declaration has brought him on a collision course with the National leader of the Party, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu who has also declared for the President.
Osinbajo was the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice when Asiwaju Tinubu was Governor.
The Vice President had said that he is the best candidate for the number one position having garnared vast experience as vice president to President Mohammadu Buhari.
He said that seven being the Vice President under Buhari had given him enough experience and deep insight into the leadership of the country.
The Redeemed Pastor said that that God has a plan to him to provide leadership for Nigerian and her citizens.
However, Osinbajo’s official declaration on Monday, has inevitably pitched him Tinubu and his supporters.
The social media is replete with people who are interpreting the indication of interest as an act of betrayal to Tinubu.
Meanwhile, the natural scramble for attention and support in high placed commenced on Monday between the two political allies torn apart by the quest to rule Nigeria.
The Network gathered that the 14 Governors of APC, including 10 of them that earlier met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in his Aso Rock official residence, shortly before his declaration moved into a closed door imeeting with Tinubu.
The Network gathered that Osinbajo declaration is raising serious dust in the South West because, Tinubu’s camp has described the attempt by the Vice President as a stab on the back of TINUBU, adding that trying to wrestle power with his boss, is very unfair.
It was learned that Lagos APC, has been cold since the news of Osinbajo’s interest broke out; more so, when TINUBU had done that months ago.
The declaration of Osinbajo has put Tinubu on hot seat forcing him to quickly meet with governors elected on the platform of the APC in Abuja.
This is coming eight hours after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, met with the same Governors.
According to the Tinubu’s supporters, Osinbajo is Tinubu’s political son having served as Commissioner in Tinubu’s Lagos State cabinet between 1999 and 2007.
The meeting took place at the Kebbi State Government Lodge in Abuja with Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu who is also the Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF).
