2023 PDP PRIMARIES: SIX CANDIDATES EMERGE AS PRIMARIES STILL UNDER WAY

The ongoing People’s Democratic Party, PDP, State primaries on Wednesday produced four Governorship aspirants in four states as the election continues tomorrow.

The results available showed that winners and losers have emerged.

The states where the primary elections have been concluded are Enugu, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Adamawa, Oyo and Ogun States.

In Enugu State, Barr. Peter Mbah emerged the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Announcing the results Sen. Ambuno said “total accredited Voters was 812; Barrister Peter Mbah scored 790 votes.
Total vote cast 804, and three invalid votes are 3.

At the election held at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu, Mbah, a former Chief of Staff and commissioner of Finance in Enugu State defeated the other aspirants.

The first runner-up, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga got 9 votes while Senator Ike Ekweremadu got 1 vote, Chinyeaka Oha, 3 votes and Gilbert Chikwado Chukwunta got 1 vote.

Sen. Ambuno said that the number of the accredited voters is 812 while 807 voted; 3 votes were invalid and the valid votes were 80.

In Abia State, Prof Uche Ikonne emerged the winner of the governorship primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Abia State.

Prof Ikonne defeated 8 other aspirants to emerge the candidate of the PDP in the election held in Umuahia stadium.

The PDP Chairman of the Electoral committee, Ayo Fayose said that the academics polled 468 votes while the first runner-up Lucky Igbokwe garnered 45 votes and voided vote was 8.

In Adamawa State, the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primaries in the state.

The state governor won with a total of 663 of the 668 votes, with five of the votes declared void.

An elated Fintiri appreciated delegates, party leaders and elders at what he described as “a defining moment for our great party in Adamawa State”.

“We demonstrated our anger at the way we were governed by the party in power in the State at that time. We made a collective resolution to take back our state
from the All Progressives Congress (APC) whose performance in governance was
far below any acceptable rating,” he said.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 governorship election in the state.

Mr Makinde scored 1,040 votes to defeat Mr Gbolarumi, who scored only two votes; six votes were voided.

Mr Makinde defeated Hazeem Gbolarumi, his only opponent in the primaries held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan, on Wednesday.

The secretary of the PDP Electoral Committee, Abdullahi MaiBasira, who announced the result, said that 1,048 delegates were accredited to vote out of 1,086 delegates.

Mr MaiBasira said Mr Makinde scored 1,040 votes to defeat Mr Gbolarumi, who scored only two votes; adding that six votes were voided.

In Ogun State, Sowunmi wins Ogun PDP governorship ticket after pulling 554 votes to defeat his closest rival, Lawal who scored 30 votes, while Adebutu polled 15 votes.

Sowunmi contested the election with two other aspirants, Jimi Lawal and Ladi Adebutu.

The chairman of the electoral committee, Abayomi Daniel, announced Sowunmi the winner of the election after the votes were counted.

According to Daniel, a total number of 778 delegates were accredited, 702 votes were casted while three votes were voided.

“By the power conferred on me by the national leadership of our great party as the chairman electoral committee of the PDP governorship primary election in Ogun State declared Hon. Segun Sowunmi as the winner of the election having polled the highest number of votes and he is hereby returned and elected”, Daniel said.

Akwa Ibom State, the anointed and preferred gubernatorial aspirant, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, emerged the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, by polling a total of 993 votes to beat 13 other contestants.

A total of 1018 delegates were accredited to vote at the primary election held at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium Uyo
