The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party has urged Nigerian residents in Atlanta to embrace the movement to retake the country and reshape her economy.
Obi said while addressing a large turnout of Nigerians in Atlanta that the country which was once celebrated all over the world has become unsafe for her citizens.
He reminded his hosts that even those in the US who managed to leave the country are not spared the hardship ravaging the country.
According to LP Candidate, the situation is so bad that virtually all calls from Nigerians to relatives in the US have become announcements of family problems.
He said, “For every ten calls you get from Nigeria today, 10 are problems, So you can’t even enjoy that money, that peace, that thing you ran away to come and do, you are worse.
“You are the social warfare, you are the funeral director, you are everything. You are in charge of hospital, you are in charge of doctors. Everyday you are calling the doctor, how is doing? Is he recovering?
“You are the one paying school fees, you are the one even taking them to the labor room, and you will pay. If they do operation you will pay, if you don’t pay they keep them in the hospital, so it is a crisis situation for you.
“My dear people, how did we get here? That is the question, how did a country so blessed, a country that was once being celebrated all over the world get here.
“All over the world countries like China, South Korea, and all these things we are seeing today, go and check our situation in 1980, they were not in anyway to be comparable to us. Today, they have become something we need to emulate.”
Obi who also referred to the nagging issue of the poor funding of education in the country, lamented that Nigeria’s education budget for six years from 2015 to 2021 is less than the budget of South Africa for the year 2021.
“It will shock you that Nigeria’s budget for education in a country of 200 Million people, our budget for education in the past six years ,( 2015 to 2021, six years) is not up to, it is barely 50% but not up to the same budget of South Africa, the second biggest country, their budget for one year, 2021.
“It is just barely about 50-60% of that, our budget for six years, 200 million in population and theirs is 60 million , south Africa, another third world country.” He added
