Foundation member of the APC, Mr Osita Okechukwu, has said that the recent rejection of Peoples Democratic Party’ (PDP) to reenlist former Olusegun Obasanjo is a signal to another defeat in 2023 presidential election.
Mr Okechukwu said that it was curious for the leadership of a political party which was rejected by the former President to return to him for purported advice.
He wondered whether the PDP was yet to come to terms with the realization that Nigerians have become suspicious and no longer interest on a party that anchors its ideal on sharing of money.
Mr Okechukwu,? the Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), made the remarks while speaking to journalists in Abuja, Sunday.
Top leaders of the party led by its national chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, visited Obasanjo in his Abeokuta Ogun State residence for a meeting that lasted over two hours.
Obasanjo who spoke to journalist after the meeting said that while PDP would remain a part of his history having given him the platform to govern Nigeria for eight years, he had no intention to venture into partisan politics.
Okechukwu, “I have my sympathy for our sister political party, PDP, over this misadventure. Just imagine the uncommon electoral boost the party would have generated if Chief Obasanjo had accepted their request.
“The statesman’s re-entry could have boosted the morale of the rank and file of the PDP. In short the rejection is a bad omen, particularly coming at the eve of the crucial 2023 presidential election.”
