Barely 24 four hours after the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinunbu, hinted President Muhammadu Buhari of his intention to run for the Presidency, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, has followed suit.
Umahi who defected last year from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress, told State House Correspondents on Tuesday that he has intimated the President of his intentions to contest the 2023 Presidential election.
Similarly, former Governor of Abia State, and Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu, has indicated interest to join the race for the Presidency in 2023 if the position is zoned to the South East.
The News Agency of Nigeria quoted Kalu as having thanked Nigerians who are urging him to contest for the Presidency while speaking with journalists at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Abuja on Tuesday.
He said that the calls by Nigerians urging him to join the Presidential race in 2023 only showed that they found him capable to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
“I want to continue to thank people who are putting up my posters all over Nigeria. I have not made up my mind whether to vie for president or not.
“But if opportunity is given to the South-East, I will think again to see if there is room because the party has not said where they are zoning the president to.” Kalu was quoted as having said.
