Two officers of the Owerri Correctional Centre have been killed in an ambush by unknown gunmen in Imo State,
The Network gathered that the officers were killed by the gunmen laying siege for them at Umulolo, Okigwe Local Government Area.
The Spokesman of Imo State Police Command, CSP Michael Abatham told journalists that the attack involved officers of the Correctional Centre Owerri.
It was gathered that Correctional Centre Officers took off from Owerri early in the morning and met their unfortunate death in the hands of the killers.
The attackers were said to have thrown dynamites on the two Toyota Hilux vans in which they were traveling killing the two officers instantly.
A source who confided in The Network said that some others who were injured were rushed to an unspecified hospital for urgent medical attention.
One of the two vans was destroyed by the dynamite while the second which was not affected was taken back to base.
The Public Relations Officer of Imo Correctional Centre, Goodluck Uboegbulem contacted confirmed the incident to journalist.
Uboegbulem who said that the Command was still assessing the situation promised to give full details of the incident later.
