RIVERS POLICE COMMAND RESCUE 15 CHILDREN FROM FAKE REV SISTER

The Rivers State Police Command on Tuesday said its operatives have rescued 15 children and arrested a fake Reverend. Sister, who allegedly kidnapped them.

The police identified the suspected kidnapper who claimed to be a Reverend Sister as Maureen Wechinwu.

According to the police, the 15 children were rescued from her residence in Aluu Community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, while parading the suspect and 20 other suspects at the Command’s headquarters in Port Harcourt, said operatives of the CP Monitoring Unit acting on intelligence “stormed the residence of the suspect” and recovered the children.

According to the CP, some of the minors revealed to the police how they were abducted before handing them over to the fake nun who allegedly traffick them to other states and within to her customers.

“On 3rd September 2022, Operation Restore Peace Personnel of the Command, acting on credible information regarding hideout of child traffickers, stormed Omuigwe Abuja Phase II, Aluu, in Ikwerre Local Government Area where a lady, who claimed to be a Rev. Sister, Maureen Wechinwu age 44yrs was arrested 15 children who were rescued”.

“The suspect, while being interrogated by newsmen claimed to be a Rev. Sister while she was living in England.

According to her, she “pays some people to supply” some of the children to her.

The police also paraded other suspected criminals in the state including those arrested for illegal dealing on gun, armed robbery and car theft.

According to the police, a total number of 21 suspects were paraded, while six arms, nine vehicles, 15 children and one mobile phone were recovered from the various suspects.
