The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the arrest of Mr. Sunday Adeyemo, aka, Igboho, for issuing a quit notice to the Serki Fulani and herdsmen and forcibly evicting them on Friday.

A report by the BBC Hausa Service quoted the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communication, Mallam Shehu Garba, as having confirmed the directive to arrest the activist.

The President’s Aide was reported to have said that the IGP told him that a directive had been issued to the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, to arrest Igboho and transfer him to Abuja to face prosecution.

“Garba said he just got off the telephone with the Inspector General of the Nigeria Police, who confirmed to him that he had ordered the arrest of Igboho, who is to be brought to Abuja.

“Igboho is among topics that have generated public discuss on social media in Nigeria on Friday since he visited Igangan in Ibarapa Local Government (of Oyo State) where he insisted that all Fulani residents in Oyo State, must leave as long as kidnapping continues.

“Mallam Garba Shehu said government was having a hard time punishing (such) offenders because of the activities of human rights organisations.”

Igboho had issued a seven-day quit notice to the Fulani and herders in Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government Area òf Oyo State over the reported killings and kidnappings of Oyo citizens.

The Yoruba activist and his followers believe that the herdsmen were behind the rising spate of killings and kidnappings in the state.

The Governor of Oyo State, Mr Seyi Makinde frowned at the quit notice and called on the IGP to ensure immediate arrest of those stoking ethnic tension in the state.

The angry Governor said that such people should be arrested and treated like common criminals.
