Notable political bigwigs were absent as Islamic clerics led by the Chief Imam of Oyoland, Alhaji Moshood Ajokideru prayed over the remains of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi 111 in Oyo town on Saturday.

Oba Adeyemi, aged 83, died in the early hours of Saturday at Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state.

Oba Adeyemi who had gone for medical checks on Sunday was later admitted on Wednesday following his complaint of malaria fever.

The monarch, according to the head of Kingsmakers otherwise known as Oyomesi High Chief Yusuf Akinade Ayoola, was expected back in town on Saturday before the announcement of his sudden demise.

Oba Adeyemi was admitted at the hospital on wednesday after complaining of malaria fever.

Series of tests were carried out on him and relevant drugs and injection were administered on him to no avail .

Ayoola stated in an interview that Kabiyesi was already recuperating and set to be discharged from the hospital before his medical condition relapsed.

He was said to have instructed the Oloris who were with him at the hospital to get themselves ready, as he would soon be discharged from the hospital.

Kabiyesi, according to Chief Ayoola has informed the consultants of his fitness but he was advised to stay till Saturday for further medical checks.

Kabiyesi, according to Chief Ayoola told the medical consultants, ‘ ‘Come and discharged me I want to go home.

We were all happy that Kabiyesi would soon be discharged to assume his traditional he at the palace.

The Oloris and some of his children who were at his bedside in the hospital were happy with the news of his medical fitness.

To further confirm his fitness, he even licked the watermelon and was in lively mood, throwing banters and sharing jokes with the hospital.

While people at home were preparing for his return, his situation relapse and eventually gave up the ghost.

Our correspondent reliably gathered that Kabiyesi has instructed his people to bury him immediately he joins his ancestor

To this effect, the Islamic rites which was earlier scheduled for 4pm was held at 12noon.

The Chief Imam of Oyo, Alhaji Moshood Ajokideru ably supported by other Islamic clerics at the palace.

Late Oba Adeyemi was brought out for prayers in a white casket while the prayers were held at the frontage of Oba Adeyemi Hall.

The prayers lasted for 3 minutes, after which his remains was taking back to the hall.

It was gathered that the traditional rites will hold at 9pm at yet to be disclosed location, while his remains will be interred at Alaafin vault, Bara in Oyo town.

The popular Akesan and other markets in the town were shutdown in honour of Kabiyesi.

Also, our correspondent gathered that there is a midnight curfew in the town.

People, as reliably informed, are to stay indoor during the period that the traditional rites will be carried out.
