Obiano Hosts Last Engagement with Anambra Elders Advisory Council, Bids Them Farewell

Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra state, has commended the state elders for the advice and support which aided the success of his administration.

Obiano’s eight-year tenure will end on March 17 when he is expected to handover to the Governor-elect, Prof. Chukwuma Sọludo.

The outgoing Governor spoke when he hosted the elders at the Governor’s Lodge, to bid them farewell.

The Governor recalled the vision and mission statements of his administration which he said he has lived and worked with.

He noted that Anambra currently is an oil producing state with fifteen wells, which he said gave him the confidence that the next thirteen percent derivation will come to the state.

Obiano recounted some of the achievements of his administration in agriculture such as the current rice production capacity of over 500,000 metric tonnes and dry season farming.

He also talked about the recorded development in the education sector.

Obiano said that his administration successfully completed one hundred and thirty seven roads, twenty bridges, an airport project built in fifteen months, among others.

He expressed confidence in the ability of the Governor-Elect to do more when he comes on board.

The Council members who met at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia made their position known through a six-point communiqué issued at the end of their meeting.

The Chairman of the Council and former Commonwealth Secretary General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku who Presented the communique said that the meeting would be the last under Obiano’s government and thanked him for the privilege of appointing them to serve the state.

Commenting on the aftermath of the last year November guber election, the Council congratulated the Governor, Prof. Soludo, and others on their victory.

Anyaoku described it as an outstanding victory, and commended the law enforcement agencies, INEC and all those who contributed to achieving a peaceful election.

Anyaoku, extolled the remarkable legacies by the governor, pointing out that Anambra is fortunate because it has an administration with admirable legacies transfering to another promising government with a lot of promises.

The elders among other things advised traditional rulers of various communities and Presidents-General, as well as religious leaders and other stakeholders to ensure that the youths imbibe the right values and avoid destructive vices as part of measures to tackle insecurity.
