NEMA Distributes Relief Materials to Flood Victims in Anambra

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief materials worth millions of naira to flood victims in Anambra East and West Federal Constituencies.

The relief materials included bags of rice, beans, Garri, mattresses, Indomie, bedsheet, clothe, palm oil, groundnut oil, amongst others.

This was the first time the area, which one of the Anambra state major flood prone areas  with vast fertile land for agriculture was witnessing such a gesture from NEMA.

Mrs Ngozi Echeazu of NEMA while inspecting the items urged the beneficiaries to judiciously use them saying more would be sent to them.

Hon. Peter Udogala Anekwe, representing the federal constituency in the House of Representatives, said the area have suffered untold flooding problems.

“I fought hard for this gesture to ensure that my people benefit from such Federal Government support. This is just the beginning of the goodies to come.

“The story has been same every year until today, the jinx was broken,” he said during the hand over of the relief materials to the officials at the party constituency office in Umueri.

He said the farmers in the area go through their untold hardship due to the destruction caused yearly by flooding.

Anekwe pledged to partner with the politicians in the area insisting that they have laboured so much, but forgotten by previous leaders.

Speaking, the DG of Anekwe campaign organization, Sir Anthony Aniakor described the lawmaker as a true leader who he said offer selfless services to his people.

He said that previous representatives did not represent them appropriately on the palliatives NEMA have been sending to the area after flood disaster each year.

Comrade Sam Obiefuna, the Aide to lawmaker on Access/Inclusion in disability matters, said they were encouraged by Anekwe representation so far, particularly in physically challenged matters.

“Some politicians often forget the physically challenged amongst them but the lawnmaker so far have run inclusive representation,” h said.

The L/P Deputy State Chairman Anambra North Senatorial district Chief Okonkwo Agudo Anam said, “in my over forty years experience as a politician in the area, I have never seen this kind of support from any lawmaker.

The woman Leader of Labour Party in the area, Patricia Ndigwe enjoined the women to support Anekwe to do more for them.
