The Anambra State Governor, Prof Charles Soludo, on Sunday joined millions of Nigerians and the Anglican Communion to celebrate this year’s “Mothering Sunday” with a task on mother’s to remain steadfast and remain committed towards building a better society.

Speaking during a mass service held at the Governor’s Lodge to celebrate the solemn occasion, Prof Soludo charged mothers not to relent in their efforts to raise morally upright and disciplined children who will make a better society tomorrow.

He harped on the need to stem the tide of moral decadence which has become so pervasive in the society.

He urged mothers to rise to the occasion by inculcating the culture of sound moral upbringing and personal discipline in the youngsters.

According to the governor, it is imperative for the younger ones to grow up to live a better and rewarding life and in the process build a safer society.

He emphasised that the Mothering Sunday is a period for sober reflection especially with regards to parenting.

He lamented the situation where the young ones are now being deeply influenced by a false sense of get-rich-quick negative attitude which has ruined a lot of the youths.

According to him, the get-rich-quick syndrome has resulted in senseless ritual killings, drug abuse, armed robbery and a host of other anti-social vices, which have bedeviled the society.

The Governor appealed to mothers to continue to play the role of a strong moral pillar for the family for that the young ones to emulate.

The Governor also used the occasion to remind mothers on the need to put a stop to the Monday weekly “sit-at-home” which has taken enormous economic tolls on businesses and the state economy.

He said that the continous observance of the weekly “sit-at-home” was not only counter productive but has greatly affected both the economic fortunes of the people and the state.

He called for a complete charge of orientation from the people as the task of building a prosperous homeland beckons.
