KOGI HOUSE MAJORITY LEADER RESIGNS OVER TERRORISM ALLEGATIONS

The majority leader, in the Kogi House of Assembly, Murktar Bajeh (APC-Okehi), on Thursday, resigned amidst m terrorist allegations slammed on him and eight other of his colleagues.

Recall that Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, on March 23, alleged that nine of the 25 Assembly members, were terrorists for their alleged roles during the March 18 House of Assembly elections held in the state.

Bello, had written a letter to the speaker, Matthew Kolawale, demanding the suspension of the nine lawmakers, and the majority leader.

He called for investigation into the roles they played during the assembly election.

In an apparent move to clear himself, Mr Bajeh, wrote a letter to the house, telling them of his resolve to step down from the majority leader’s position

“I hereby wish to inform this House that I am no more interested in being your leader but have resigned forthwith,” the letter read.

The letter was read by the speaker, who sought the opinion of the house members during plenary.

However, the deputy speaker, Alfa Momoh-Rabiu, motion to nominate a substitute in the person of the chief whip, Ahmed Dahiru, to replace Mr Bajeh.

The chief whip, Mr Dahiru’s nomination was unanimously accepted by members to fill the vacant position, because according to the members, he has the capacity and ability to do the job.

 “The house, having accepted the choice of Hon. Ahmed Dahiru, member representing Okene II, to fill in the gap left by Hon. Muktar Bajeh, we hereby declare him (Dahiru) our new Majority Leader from today”. The Speaker said.
