Gunmen on Thursday abducted four students of the University of Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The Head of the Information and Public Relations Unit of the university, Mr Abubakar Ibrahim confirmed the abduction in a statement of Friday.
Ibrahim said that the gun men attacked the university at 11:30 pm on Friday.
He said that the abduction took place at a community near the university, Mararraba,
The Vice chancellor expressed worry over the incidents of students abduction in Nasarawa State which he described as a serious threat to education.
The VC sympathized with the families of the affected students and assured them that efforts are being made to ensure the safe return of the kidnap victims.
He said, “The authority of the Federal University of Lafia regrets to announce that four students of the institution were kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at around 11:30 p.m.
“The unfortunate kidnap incident took place at a community, Mararraba, located close to the University.
“Consequently, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, on behalf of the management of the institution, expressed his profound outrage at the unfortunate development and condemned it in strong terms and demand for the immediate release of those kidnapped.
“The vice-chancellor, who has since visited the area where the students were kidnapped, visited the Nasarawa Police Command where he formally notified the Commissioner of Police about the abduction of the students.” The statement read in part.
He, said that VC had equally contacted other security agencies and appealed to them work tirelessly for the safe and quick return of the students.
The statement urged the students to pay more attention to security related matters, remain calm, and go about their normal activities.
The vice-chancellor said that additional security measures have been put in place to guarantee adequate safety of lives and property within and outside the campuses of the University.
