BOLANLE RAHEEM: SANWO-OLU CONDOLES  FAMILY, AS IGP VOWS JUSTICE MUST PREVAIL

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday, consoled the family of the slain woman, Bolanle Raheem, who was killed in the Ajah area of Lagos on Sunday by a police officer.

Sanwo-Olu while consoling the family, vowed to ensure that justice prevails in the killing of the lawyer, Bolanle Raheem.

Sanwo-Olu who expressed his condolences to the bereaved family, in a statement shared on his Twitter handle on Monday, said the incident was a sad one.

“With utter shock and sadness, I received the news of the unfortunate and avoidable death of Barrister Bolanle Raheem at the hands of a police officer at Ajiwe. 

“My condolence to her family, friends and associates. I can assure you that justice will be served. Nothing will be spared under the Laws of Lagos State until justice is served speedily and adequately.” He tweeted.

Also, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, described the shooting as heartbreaking.

He equally condemned the shooting and called for urgent police reforms.

 “The shooting of Bolanle Raheem by a police officer is heartbreaking and stands condemned

“This latest shooting calls to attention the urgent need for Police reforms that will sanitise the Force and bring it in line with best policing practices.” He said.

Also, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba, on Monday, described the killing of the lawyer, as unfortunate and sad incident.

Alkali Baba has also ordered a speedy investigation and prosecution of the officers responsible for the ugly and unprofessional act.

Force Headquarters, Abuja, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in statement said the IGP, has ordered a speedy investigation and prosecution of the officers responsible for the ugly, and unprofessional act, which he said doesn’t portray the Nigeria Police Standard Operating Procedure and core values. 

“In the same vein, the IGP commiserates with the family,  friends, and colleagues of the deceased as he prays for the repose of her soul. 

“He further assures the general public of justice in the case while he warns officers and men of the Force to be professional and people-oriented in the discharge of their duties and operate within the ambit of the law, as the Force’s leadership will not condone any inappropriate or unprofessional acts.” The statement reads.

 Mrs Omobolanle Raheem, a pregnant mother of five was shot, and killed by a policeman attached to Ajiwe Police Station, Ajah, Lagos State while returning from a Christmas Day outing with her family.
