Biafra: IPOB makes fresh demand for referendum

…Asks Nigerian and Kenyan governments to explain role in Nnamdi Kanu’s abduction and extradition to Nigeria

Worried by the incessant attacks and killings going on in Nigeria, especially in the South-East Region, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has once again called for a referendum.
In a statement on Monday by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, the group asked the Nigerian government to set a date for the referendum to give Biafrans an opportunity to decide whether or not they want to continue to be part of the union and “the mistake of 1914”.
Commenting on the ongoing trial of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB spokesman requested world leaders, men and women of good conscience around the world to ask the Nigerian and Kenyan governments why they are yet to give clarification on how Mazi Kanu was abducted in Kenya and extradited to Nigeria.
“Their inability to explain how our leader was abducted and extradited to Nigeria has only confirmed their culpability in the whole saga no matter how clever they think they are in denying any involvement”, Mr. Powerful said.
He noted that it is a known rule that airports across the world are safe places for all law abiding citizens but that Kenya has allowed its International Airport to serve as abduction ground for the oppressive Nigerian Government, which kidnapped the IPOB in spite of the fact that he traveled to Kenya with a British passport.
“This is nothing but travesty of justice should our leader be put on trial without clarifications on his unlawful kidnap and extradition? The DSS (Department of State Services)should explain its role in our leader’s abduction and extradition. IPOB will not relent in fighting this injustice against innocent citizens” the IPOB spokesman said.
He state that in Nigeria today, many innocent men and women are kidnapped, tortured and locked up by the DSS and other security agencies for weeks, months and in some cases for years, trial. He said many people have died in the process with many others being held in solitary confinements and in secret cells all over the country without their families and friends knowing their whereabouts.

“These detention centres have turned into abattoirs where detainees are killed and their organs harvested and sold to the highest bidder by the wicked security operatives. Detention facilities of the various security agencies have become abattoirs where they slaughter human beings like cows. It’s horrible that security agents who are supposed to protect them have become their worst nightmare”, he said.
Drawing comparisons between the DSS detention facilities Gestapo detention centres during the Nazi regime of German dictator, Adolf Hitler, during the Second World War, Mr. Powerful said contrary to the story put out by the Federal Government, Mazi Kanu did not jump any bail or commit any crime known to law to warrant being treated like a criminal.
