APC WORRIES OVER INCLUSION OF POLITICAL APPOINTEES INTO CONVENTION LIST

The former Acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger State has said that the leadership of the party would take a look at the issue of the inclusion of political appointees in the delegates list for party’s National convention on Saturday.

Bello made the comment while speaking on Arise Television Programme ‘The Morning Show’ monitored by the Network on Wednesday.

The Governor spoke while reacting on the controversy surrounding Section 84
of the Electoral Act which stipulates that political appointees are excluded from being delegates at primaries or convention.

Gov Bello said that the issue of the provision of Section 84 had been a cause for concern which the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee would deal with in the next few hours or days before the convention on Saturday.

He said, “Chairing the convention committee, we have been very busy. I have not been paying so much attention to much of the activities going on.

“Yes, I agree. It (Provision of Section) is a cause for major concern. And at the caretaker Committee level, I believe it would be looked at properly, so that we don’t put any one at risk.

“So I think, yes you are right, it is something to look at carefully which I believe we will do within the next few hour. “

Adamu who also spoke on issue of the Consensus candidate for the position of the National Chairman of the APC, said that the party is considering Senator Abdulahi Adamu because of the suggestion by the President.

“At the moment, we are looking at Senator Abdulahi Adamu based on the suggestion by Mr President for whatever reasons.

“ I believe that this is a Democratic dispensation, if the other contestants do not key in or buy into this idea, it is their legitimate rights to contest. But we hope that this matter will be resolved within the next few days.”

He said that the CECPC was
expecting not less 5000 delegates at the convention.
