The former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs who represents Zamfara North Senatorial Zone, Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura, has debunked the purported media reports that the All Progressive Congress, APC, has zoned its Presidency and Chairmanship positions to particular geopolitical zones.
Tijani while picking the APC NationaI chairmanship nomination form on behalf of the Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, stated that even though the party had zoned chairmanship to the North and Presidency to the South, the party did not particularly zoned it to any particular zone.
“Let me say again, that we are all aware that the party has zoned National Chairmanship to the North and Presidency to the South but we are not aware that there is specific zoning within the geo-political zones of either the President or the National chairman of the party.” Tijani stated.
According to him, nobody indicated whether the Presidency was zoned to Southwest, South East or South-South and that the party’s acting Chairman has not come out officially to say that the chairmanship of the party, has been zoned to a particular geopolitical zone.
“So, that is why we are here.” He quipped.
He said they picked the nomination form for YARI because of what they believe he will bring to the table to change the narrative of the party.
He disclosed that come March 26, Yari will emerge as the chairman.
“Abdulaziz Yari has been a down to earth politician. He was a party Secretary in Zamfara State, 20 years ago, and from there, he rose to become the party Chairman in the state before he became a member of the House of Representatives.
“Thereafter, he became the Executive Governor of the state for eight years during which he become the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’Forum. That is enough experience to lead this great party.”
According to him, the vast political experience and knowledge that Yari has garnered over the years are enough to endear him into the heart of the APC stakeholders and allow him to attract the 36 state governors of the federation to sell his Chairmanship campaign.
“I can assure you that today, Abdulaziz Yari has “sold” himself and he has been “purchased” by all the members of the party across the 36 states of the federation.” He boasted.
“And I can assure you that on March 26, when we get to Eagles Square you will see what I mean.”
When asked if he was working for the former Zamfara State Governor, Sani Yerima, he said they are working together saying Yerima and Kabir Marafa, are senior citizens and elders òf the party in Zamfara State.
