Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr. Uche Okafor, on Thursday announced the appointment of Dr Pete Ibida representing Njikoka ll constituency as the new Chief Whip of the Assembly.

The appointment followed a letter from the leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance Congress, which was read by the Speaker, Mr Uche Okafor on Thursday, at the plenary.

“Members of APGA which is the majority party in the House met and appointed Dr Pete Ibida representing Njikoka ll constituency, as the new Chief Whip of the House, “ Okafor said.

Mr Ibida thanked the lawmakers for finding him worthy to serve as the new Chief Whip.

“I promise to use this position to champion excellence for the interest and progress of the Anambra state Assembly,” Ibida said.

The Majority Leader of the House, Dr Nnamdi Okafor, commended Ibida on behalf of the lawmakers and assured him of their support.

Recall that on Feb. 16, the former Chief Whip, Mr Lawrence Ezeudu representing Dunukofia Constituency, in a letter dated Dec. 7, 2021, resigned his position with immediate effect.

The lawmaker said he resigned as the Chief Whip of the House following his defection from APGA to the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is a minority party in the House.
