The succession race for the next Alaafin of Oyo has started, The Network has gathered.

The Alaafin of Oyo died on Friday night at the Afe Babalola Teaching Hospital Ado-Ekiti.

It is the historical fact that there are two ruling Houses in Oyoland, and they represent the two prominent sons of Alaafin Atiba Atobatele.

The Ruling Houses, as reliably informed are; Alowolodu Ruling House where the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi came from and Agunloye Ruling House where we have Ladigbolu and other families.

The Network gathered that Alaafin of Oyo stool is being rotated between the two Ruling Houses in accordance with the tradition of Oyoland.

The kingmakers led by the Basorun of Oyoland who now doubles as the Regent, High Chief Yusuf Akinade Ayoola is expected to meet and seek the approval of the Ifa divinity on who among the princes from the next Ruling House will succeed Late Oba Adeyemi.

Meanwhile, notable Oyo indigenes who spoke on the condition of anonymity disclosed to our correspondent that selection of Alaafin of Oyo has always been a rancour free exercise, adding that this one will not be an exception.

They added that the next Alaafin will come from Agunloye Ruling House but they are not sure which of the families that make up the Ruling House will produce the next Kabiyesi.

However, our correspondent learnt that the next Kabiyesi would come from the Ladigbolu family which is one of the prominent families in Agunloye Ruling House.

It was gathered that one of the prominent sons of that family that people have been looking up to as the next Kabiyesi died some months ago.

The deceased, as reliably informed worked as a counsel in the Oyo State Ministry of Justice but later got promoted as a judge in the same Ministry before his demise.

His death, according to our findings has created a vacuum, as the family is now looking towards another direction that would be acceptable not only to the deities but the entire people of the town.

But a palace source stated that the new Alaafin of Oyo will not be named until the mourning period is over.

According to the source, in Oyoland, we believe so much in the tradition. We are not in a haste to name a new king. Traditional protocol must be strictly adhered to. Sacrifices have to be made to appease the gods and goddesses of the land.
