A Bayelsa State Monarch, on Tuesday, supported the demolition of 14 illicit drug joints and flogging of miscreants who dresses indecently in the locality by the Council’s Taskforce.
The raid, which took place in the early hours of Sunday,1 May, was followed with jubilation by residents of community, who joined the team to effect the demolition of the illicit drug spots.
The traditional ruler of the Okpoama Community in Brass Council Area of Bayelsa State, the Amayanabo of Okpoama Kingdom, His Royal Majesty King Emmanuel Ebitimi Banigo, said the raid was necessary to curtail drug induced violence and abuse of drugs.
The Network gathered that the monarch instructed community youths and chiefs under the Chairman of the Chiefs Council, Chief Inikio Sam Sele-Dede, to carry out the raiding and demolition of the 14 dark spots.
The youths shaved the heads of sons of the drug peddlers and users who were caught within the premises of the drug joints in the town.
It was gathered that the while carrying out the directive of the Monarch, the Council Taskforce demolished 14 drug peddling spoints and illicit drugs suspected to be cannabis, known as India Hemp.
The spots also trade on benzos, cocaine, LSD and codeine which were found and seized by the Taskforce.
It was learned that the Council and the Monarch’s decision to move against the illicit drug spots in the community was as a result of the rising drug abuse by the hoodlums within the community.
The act, according to the Taskforce has the unprovoked tendencies for violence and shabby dressing codes.
