The Supreme Court in Abuja, has reaffirmed the victory of Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, and dismissed the appeal of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 governorship election, David Emmanuel Ombugadu.

This brings to an end the lingering governorship tussle between the opposition PDP and it candidate, David Ombugadu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the incumbent Governor Abdullahi Sule.

Delivering its ruling on Friday, the apex court dismissed the appeal filed by David Ombugadu for lacking in merit.

The apex court said Governor Sule was validly elected in the election held on Saturday March 18, 2023.

A five-man panel of the Court has in a unanimous judgement squashed the appealed of Ombugadu in favour of Governor Sule.

The March 18th gubernatorial which produced Governor Sule, was earlier nullified by the election petition tribunal, of which the Governor headed to Court of Appeal to challenge the judgment of the tribunal, where same was reversed.

Meanwhile, streets in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State were deserted, especially the Lafia -Jos road, as some persons, suspected to be PDP members took to streets protesting the outcome of the supreme court judgement in favour of Governor Abdullahi Sule.

The Jos road has been completely blocked as the protesters set fire on tires along the road to express their grievances.

Road users plying the Lafia-Jos road took alternative routes to pass through to their destinations

A combined team of security operatives, comprising of military, police, DSS snd NSCDC were seen in strategic places in Lafia to curtail any breakdown of law and order.
