18-Year-Old Docked For Vehicle Theft, Malicious Damage

News Investigators/ An 18-year-old, Collins Edrehow, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing a Honda Pilot Jeep valued at N7 million and damaging parts of the vehicle during an altercation.

Edrehow is facing a three-count charge bordering on breach of peace, malicious damage and stealing, contrary to Sections 168, 339 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Aug. 14, 2025, at about 10.00 a.m. at the Testing Ground, Obafemi Awolowo Way, Alausa, Ikeja.

Ikhayere said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace at the scene, attracting the attention of bystanders.

She further alleged that during the incident, Edrehow damaged a Honda Pilot Jeep with registration number KTU 111 FB by destroying the headlight and right-side fender.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant later stole the same vehicle, which was valued at N7 million and property of one Olanrewaju Adanri of Ikorodu, Lagos.

She said that the matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest and arraignment of the defendant.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Me Lateef Owolabi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate also ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until Oct. 2, 2025, for further hearing.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that cases involving vehicle theft and damage are becoming common within the Alausa and Ikeja axis, an area that houses many government offices and motor parks.
