10 BURNT TO DEATH IN TANKER EXPLOSION IN LAGOS-IBADAN EXPRESSWAY 

A tanker explosion in Lagos has resulted in the death of ten motorists along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

The Network gathered that the incident which occurred in front of Con Oil filling Station at Araromi Town involved  two petroleum tankers laden with fuel, a bus and two trucks  

The explosion which occurred in the early hours of the morning resulted in the death of 10 out of 12 occupants of the bus who were burnt beyond recognition.

Many of the victims were seen burnt in the ill fated bus while a passenger that tried to escape from the bus was burnt beyond recognition on the floor. 

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State, Mr Ahmed Umar, confirmed to journalists that three vehicles were burnt completely while 10 were burnt to death.

Officials of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance Enforcement Corp, the State Fire Service, the Police, the FRSC, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, are on the ground managing the situation.

The State Public Relations Officer of TRACE, Mrs BJ Akinbiyi, urged motorists who are trapped in the accident scene to use alternative routes out of the area in a traffic alert released on Thursday.

“An incident of fire explosion was recorded early this morning at Con Oil fontage involving a petrol laden tanker and a bus, outbound Lagos, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

“While rescue agencies involving TRACE, FRSC, Ogun State Fire Service, POLICE and NSCDC are presently at the scene managing the situation to prevent escalation of the unfortunate incident, motorists already trapped in traffic are admonished to remain calm and obey traffic managers advise on traffic rerouting, while those driving outbound and inbound Lagos are urge to follow the alternative routes below:

“Those driving outbound Lagos (coming out of Lagos) to Sagamu, Abeokuta and Ibadan should make use of Mowe-Ofada road and come out at Interchange (and vice-versa) and continue their journey from there.

“However, those going towards the Eastern part of the country should make use of Lagis-Eoe expressway.

“Any inconveniences is highly regretted please.”
