Why Ministry of Works Staff locked Up Works Minister, Umahi, In His Office

Workers at the Ministry of Works, early morning of Thursday, locked up the Minister of works, Dave Umahi, in his office on Thursday, September 28, while protesting against the Minister over his alleged tyrannical display of power.

The protesting staff are claiming that the Minister barred staff who were allegedly late for work from entering the ministry.

Irked by the Minister’s action, the Union members in the Housing and Works Ministry decided to lock up the entire ministry and prevented entry and exit into the building, thereby preventing the Minister from leaving the office.

According to the workers, Umahi, “stopped engineers and directors from doing their work, and has been breaking public service rules since his appointment, by bringing in consultants to run the affairs of the ministry”

A Union representative, Williams Kudi, told journalists that the minister has refused to give them audience to explain their concerns.

Meanwhile the minister has apologized to the workers and promised to look into their welfare  for   normalcy to be restored.

He also pledged to meet with them to have a better understanding of the issues affecting the workers.

Umahi also promised to provide more staff buses, among other interventions to the workers who complained about the cost of transportation and others.
