Tinubu Intervenes in Rivers Political Crisis

•••As Police Council Confirms Egbetokun as IGP

President Bola Tinubu has waded into the raging political crisis between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his political godfather, Nyesom Wike.

Twenty four members of the State House of Assembly led by Speaker, Martins Amaewhule,attempted to remove Governor Fubara from office on Monday.

The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, told State House correspondents that Tinubu had a meeting with Fubara and Wike to ensure restoration of normalcy in the state.

The two political figures involved in the crisis, Fubara and Wike, met at the the maiden meeting of the Police Council under the Tinubu administration in Abuja.

The meeting was attended by the 36 Governors and the Minister of the FCT.

The meeting of the Council confirmed Mr. Kayode Egbetokun as the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Mohammed said: “We had a closed session, you will recall, members of the press, where a very serious national issue was discussed that has security implication. 

“That is the problem emerging in Rivers. Mr President, in his usual leadership position, intervened and it would appear there will be peace in that respect.”

The former Governor of Rivers State, Wike and his successor were sighted having a handshake after the meeting.

However, attempts by journalists to take photographs of the encounter between Fubara and Wike was blocked by security personnel.
