SENATE CONFIRMS ARASE AS PSC CHAIRMAN 

The Senate has confirmed the appointment of former Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase as the new chairman of the Police Service Commission.

His appointment followed his screening and subsequent recommendation by the Committee on Police Affairs led by Senator Jika Haliru (Bauchi Central) on Wednesday.

Senator Haliru in a report on the outcome of the screening he presented to the Senate said that the former IGP performed excellently well and displayed capacity to function as the Chairman of the Police Service Commission.

After adopting the report,  Senate confirmed Arase as the substantive Chairman of the PSC,

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday forwarded the name of the former IGP to the Senate for confirmation as new chairman of Police Service Commission (PSC).

He said the nomination of Arase for confirmation was in accordance with the provision of Section 154(1) of 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

The former chairman of the Commission, former IGP Musiliu Smith, resigned in September, 2022.

In his stead, a member of the Commission, Justice Clara Ogunbiyi (rtd), took over as PSC chairman in acting capacity since September 15, 2022.
