News Investigators/ The Police Command in Enugu State has recovered eight stolen vehicles and detained eight suspects for alleged armed robbery and other offences.
The Command’s Spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Enugu.
He noted that the breakthrough was achieved through sustained onslaughts against criminality and multiple intelligence-driven operations.
According to him, the feat underscores the command’s unwavering commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements.
Ndukwe said that on Aug. 21, at about 9:30 a.m., operatives of the Command’s SWAT arrested three suspects, aged 44, 35, and 49.
“A Toyota Kluger (Highlander SUV), reportedly stolen at Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, on July 21, refurbished, and already being prepared for sale in Awka, Anambra, was recovered from them,” he said.
Ndukwe said that similarly, on Aug. 19, at 1:30a.m., operatives attached to Ozalla Division intercepted suspected criminals along the Udi/Ozalla Road and detained a 26-year-old suspect while others escaped.
The spokesman said that the criminal gang’s operational vehicle, a Toyota Hiace bus with Delta registration number ASB 108 YF, was recovered from the suspect.
He said, “Meanwhile, the fleeing suspects abandoned another Toyota Hiace bus with Ebonyi registration number AKL 163 YU, which they had earlier stolen from where it was parked at Amokwe in Udi Local Government Area of Ebonyi.
“Upon interrogation, the detained suspect confessed to burglary, admitting that he and his fleeing accomplices usually infiltrated Enugu State from Anambra to steal goods from shops and later sell them in Anambra.”
Ndukwe said that in another development, on Aug. 12, at about 5:30a.m., operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad, acting on credible intelligence, detained 42-old-year suspect
“A blue Toyota Corolla was immediately recovered from him in Ogui, Enugu, following intelligence received through the Enugu State Command-and-Control Centre.
“The Enugu State Command-and-Control Centre had earlier captured the vehicle being used to snatch a Toyota Camry 2.2 on Aug. 3 at about 7:54 a.m., along Rangers Avenue, Independence Layout, Enugu.
“The suspect confessed to car stealing and snatching, which led to recovery of two more vehicles: a gold Toyota Sienna minivan with Lagos registration number BDG 935 GP and a black Lexus 350 with Enugu registration number UWN 762 AH.
“Also recovered were several vehicle registration particulars, keys and number plates,” he said.
Ndukwe said that earlier, on Aug. 8, at about 11:10 a.m., operatives of the Crack Tactical Squad, leveraging intelligence, also detained three male suspects.
He said that their detention followed a report of an armed robbery in which a Carter Tec Super motorcycle and a Samsung Galaxy S-8 phone were snatched from their victims at Amokpu-Nike, Enugu.
He said, “The stolen motorcycle, alongside another, was recovered from the suspects where they had displayed them for sale at Ogbeke-Nike, Enugu East LGA.
“The detained suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicates and recover additional exhibits.”
