Police arrest 9 For Theft of Goods Worth N24.68m, Car, Motorcycles

Police have intercepted goods and other valuables worth N24.6 million including a trailer load of 130 bags of rice, Jerry cans of vegetable oil, recovery of stolen car and motorcycles at different locations in Oyo state.

 The police also arrested nine suspects in connection with the recovered stolen items.

Parading the suspects before newsmen at the weekend, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso said the trio of Amos Friday, Sunday Peter and Chinedu Victor were arrested in connection with motorcycles theft at Odo-Ona Elewe in Oluyole local government area penultimate Saturday.

The suspects, according to the police brief are noted for attacking motorcyclists otherwise known as okada riders and subsequently dispossessing  them of their valuables.

The suspects, according to the PPRO confessed to the crime of  attacking one Sulaiman Issah who is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital at Odo-Ona Elewe Ibadan.

The suspects were arrested while attempting to flee the scene of the incident by a team of Police operatives attached to the State Command Monitoring Unit.

The Command also confirmed the arrest of a member of a criminal gang that specializes in diversion of trailers and other articulated vehicles laden with assorted goods including bags of rice.

A member of the gang was arrested at Alakia in Egbeda local government area after successfully  hijacked and diverting  a trailer load of rice worth N4.68m billed be moved from Akure to Ibadan.

The PPRO said, the suspect was found in possession of 130 bags of rice worth N4.68m suspected to be stolen with preliminary investigations revealing that the trailer and consignments therein were designated to a store at Akure, Ondo state from Kano state.

The suspect masterminded the sale of part of the goods to the criminal receivers at Okene in Kogi state.

The Command also paraded two suspects who were identified as Segun Folorunso and Sokunbi Oluwagbemiga over allegation of car theft.

The suspects allegedly stole one unregistered Sonara  car  (ash colour) in Erio Ekiti and were arrested in Ibadan on their way to Iyana Ipaja area, Lagos.

The case, according to the Police image maker would be handed over to the Ekiti Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.

Also, the Command confirmed the arrest of the four suspects, namely Olumide Akinyemi, Mohammed Olajide, Azeez Okunlola and Salawudeen Farouk in connection with the diversion of vegetable oil worth N20m of Naira in Ibadan.
