OPEC SECRETARY GENERAL, SANUSI BARKINDO, IS DEAD

Secretary General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo, is dead. 

The OPEC Scribe  died at about 11pm on Tuesday at the age 63.

He died some hours after he was received by President Muhammadu Buhari alongside a delegation from OPEC at the Presidential villa on Tuesday.

Barkindo’s death was announced by the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Meke Kyari in an early morning tweet on Wednesday.

He described Barkindo’s death as a great loss to his family, the NNPC Nigeria, OPEC and global energy community.

”We lost our esteemed Dr Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo. He died at about 11pm yesterday 5th July 2022. Certainly a great loss to his immediate family, the NNPC, our country Nigeria, the OPEC and the global energy community. Burial arrangements will be announced shortly,” he wrote in his verified official yak Twitter handle.

Kyari lamented that Barkindo died at about 11p.m on Tuesday few hours after delivering an address to oil and gas stakeholders at the ongoing 2022 Nigerian oil and gas conference and exhibition in Abuja.
