The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the Feb. 15, 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, has condemned the rulings of the Supreme Court, which affirmed the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the election.

Obi, said during a world press conference at the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Office in Abuja  on Monday that the Supreme Court ignored rigging, identity theft, forgery, and perjury in its verdict on the election.

He said the ruling of the apex court contradicted the overwhelming evidence of election rigging, identity theft, and a false claim of technical hitch.

He said that the Supreme Court has transferred a moral burden from the courtroom to society.

He castigated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing in the discharge of its official duty.

Meanwhile, Obi has explained why he was absent at the Supreme Court on the day Tinubu’s electoral victory was affirmed.

According to him, he was unable to attend following a pre-arranged international commitment.

Obi said, “About a fortnight ago, I was traveling abroad on a prior scheduled engagement when I received the notice that the Supreme Court would give judgment on 26th October 2023 on our challenge to the ruling of the Presidential Election Petitions Court. That judgment has since been delivered as scheduled.

“The leadership of the Labour Party has already pronounced its position on the judgment. As someone who has previously benefited from the rulings of the Supreme Court on electoral matters, I have, after a period of deep and sober reflection, decided to personally and formally react to the recent judgment as most Nigerians have. Because we are confronted with very weighty issues of national interest, I will speak forthrightly”
