NO GOING BACK ON PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION ON SATURDAY–NATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL

After the meeting of the security chiefs with President Muhammmadu Buhari, on Wednesday, the National Security Council (NSC), announced that the Presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, February 25, and March 11, 2023 will hold as planned.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba, jointly addressed State House Correspondent on the outcome of the meeting at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja.

The AGF, explained that the meeting was fully briefed by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, the three service chiefs, Inspector-General of Police and heads of other security agencies about their readiness to provide the necessary security backup for Saturday’s poll.

Malami added that following the discussion, the council issued a marching order, declaring that the February 25 election should hold as planned.

He said the Council’s meeting was a followup to earlier meetings of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), and the Council of State to certify the readiness of the electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the police and security agencies to go ahead with the general elections in the country.
