News Investigators/ Team Nigeria finished top of the medals table with 28 gold, 35 silver and 38 bronze at the just concluded two-day 14th African Arm Wrestling & 7th Para Arm Wrestling championship in Abuja.
Team Republic of Benin finished on the second spot with 23 gold, 30 silver and 11 bronze, while Ghana finished on the third place with 21 gold, 20 silver and nine bronze medals..
Speaking after the event, President of the Nigerian Arm Wrestling Federation, Samuel Olatunji, said he was happy with Team Nigeria’s performance at the event.
“First of all, I am elated with the standard of the event, the ambience, the performance by the athletes, and as a former athlete, I am happy that we are able to pull through.
“Team Nigeria made us proud; this is a competition with 20 countries and to amass the number of points we did, shows that we are improving as a federation and sport,” he said.
Olatunji said that the tournament would serve as preparations for the 2027 African Games qualifier in Accra next year.
