The Nigerian Bar Association has elected a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Yakubu Maikyau as its 31st President.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the Legal body Professor Ayodele Akintunde, (SAN) returned Maiyaku in the election which held virtually on Sunday.
Maiyaku polled 22, 342 votes defeat his closest opponent Mr Joe-Kyari Gadzama (SAN) who scored 10, 842 votes while Mr Taidi Jonathan came third with 1,373 votes.
With his emergence as the elected President of the NBA, Maiyaku is expected to take over as the 31st President from Mr Olumide Akpata.
Other national officers who emerged from the election are Mrs Linda Bala (1st Vice President), Mr Clement Ugo (2nd Vice President), and Mrs Amanda Demechi-Asagba (3rd Vice President.)
Mr Adesina Adegbite and Mr Daniel Kip Ka-Ayli were elected Secretary and Assistant General Secretary, respectively.
Others are Ms Chinyere Obasi (National Welfare Secretary), Mr Habeeb Lawal (National Publicity Secretary), Mr Olawole Ajiboye – (Assistant Publicity Secretary) and Anze-Bishop Ladidi (Treasurer.)
