Man To Sweep Court Premises For 5 Weeks For Stealing Ceiling Fans

News Investigators/ A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday, ordered one Kabiru Sani, 25, to sweep the court premises for five weeks for stealing two ceiling fans worth N149,800.

Mr Sani, a resident of Ungwan Sarki in Kaduna, has been convicted and sentenced by a Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to a charge of theft.

The presiding Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, noted that Mr Sani’s guilty plea had saved the court valuable time.

He added that the punishment would have been more severe if the convict had not admitted to the crime, and being a first time offender.

He, however, warned him to desist from crime adding, that the court would not be lenient with him next time.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo told the court that the convict had broken into the shop of one Jamilu Garba and stole two ceiling fans worth N149,800.

Insp. Leo said that the convict was arrested by a security guard while coming out of the shop with the stolen items.

He said the offence contravened Section 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
