INEC Declares Sanwo-Olu, Yusuf Abba Kabir Winners In Lagos, Kano States, Kebbi Inconclusive

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been declared winner of Saturday’s Governorship election held by the Independent National Electoral Commission,(INEC).

With a total score of 762, 134 votes, Sanwo-Olu was re-elected for second term in office.

According to the results announced on Sunday at INEC’s collation centre in Yaba, Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party, who is the closest rival in the contest polled 312,329 votes while the candidate of the PDP, Olajide Adediran, came behind with 62,449 votes.

Sanwo Olu who is now the 15th elected Governor of Lagos State in his acceptance speech, expressed readiness to work with other contestants, saying that there was no winner, no vanquished.

But in Kebbi state, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the INEC, Professor Yusuf Saidu, has declared the governorship election inconclusive due to what he described as irregularities which marred elections in 18 local government areas of the state.

The returning officer quoted some sections from the electoral Act which gave him the power to declare the results inconclusive.

Also, in Kano state,  the hedependent National Electoral Commission announced the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP) Yusuf Abba Kabir, as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

The announcement was made on Monday despite the tension in the state.

The Returning Officer for the Kano State Governorship election, Professor Ahmed Ibrahim, who declared the results of the polls stated that the NNPP candidate polled a total of 1,019,602 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress, who scored 890,705 votes.
